Description
The Julie Burgess is the last of the fleet of small sailing vessels that traded and fished in the waters of Bass Strait for well over a century.
These boats were the work-horses of early Tasmanian coastal settlements, carrying timber, farm produce and other cargoes along the coast and across Bass Strait before there were ports, roads, railways and bridges.
She represents generations of seafaring families such as the Burgesses, who braved the stormy seas and strong currents of the Strait to build the successful crayfishing industry.
