This publication provides essential information on the creation and delivery of training courses focusing on the certification of GMDSS radio operators.
Training courses developed in line with these criteria will cover:
General Operator Certificate of Competence
Restricted Operator Certificate of Competence.

The aim of these courses is to provide seafarers with the necessary knowledge, understanding and proficiency to transmit and receive information using GMDSS systems and equipment, to fulfil the functional requirements of SOLAS Chapter IV, Regulation 4, and to provide radio services in emergency situations.
The MCA has agreed with the Association of Marine Electronic and Radio Colleges (AMERC) and the Merchant Navy Training Board (MNTB) that the specifications described in this document satisfy the requirements for approved training and follow the provisions identified in the AMERC Administration Handbook.
