The History of An Australian Schooner 1903- 1975

 

Captain Ralph McDonell retired in 1987 after nearly 42 years at se. The first twelve were spent in Cunard line and the remainder in the Australian National Line, none of them in sail.

His interest in Alma Doepel dates back to 1976 when he first met Michael Wood, soon after the arrival in Melbourne of the woebegone hulk of this once proud ship.

Michael's determination and care for detail in the vessels restoration promoted the author to undertake the recording of her history, and thereby relive the manual labourer's of the correspondence and research.
