While not completely replacing traditional records, data from ECDIS, VDR and AIS are vital resources for investigators. Evidence needed for average adjusters, mariner lawyers, P&I and naval architects is set out together with examination of subjects as diverse as fire, deterioration of agricultural cargoes, machinery failure and surveying.
