This book covers the development of the Australian Navy between 1919 and 1939 and our involvement in the international and domestic events of those years. As men struggled with decisions of what ships we needed and could afford, developing a fleet was constrained by lack of funds, the Great Depression and other event but, with war approaching fast, by 1939 we had a reasonable number of modern ships and older vessels that had a valuable role in WW2.
