A STOKER’S JOURNEY is a record of his 12 years in the Royal Australian Navy, from 1940-52; his fears of attack by German dive bombers or submarines, and then being sunk in the Mediterannean is graphically described. From the Mediterannean Andy went to New Guinea, and a few years later sailed to the Korean War on the aircraft carrier HMAS Sydney.
The book provides a wonderful insight into how a young sailor viewed the war, his anxieties and hopes at a time when hope was in small supply. 212 pages PB
